Exploring Environmental Health Science
“Letting the students discover and think critically is much better preparation for life than just telling them the answers.”
~ Mrs. Ujvagi, 6th grade, St. Pius X, Toledo
Environmental Health Science (EHS) is a fascinating field of study that affects our lives on a daily basis. We are only as healthy as the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe and the places we live, work and play. That is why the field of Environmental Health was created. As the world becomes more complex, EHS has an ever-increasing role of ensuring the health of everyone in it.
Defined specifically, EHS is concerned with assessing and controlling the human health related impacts of people on their environment. In other words, it is the study of environmental stressors and how they affect human health. It is considered a subfield of public health.
