 In Project EXCITE, teams of four teachers from different disciplines will experience and design an interdisciplinary unit that focuses on:

  • Relevant and engaging topics for 5th-9th grade students
  • Local environmental health science issues
  • Problem-solving and investigation skills
  • Hands-on, minds-on learning
  • Ohio and national standards in all disciplines

BENEFITS FOR TEACHERS 

  • $1000 Stipend
  • 10 grant funded graduate credit hours

To apply, send individual letters of interest by each team member and an Administrator Letter of Support.

Describe why you would like to become a Project EXCITE participant. Tell us about...

  • Your experiences in teaching interdisciplinary units, either in your own classroom or with other teachers.
  • Your experiences using teaching problem-based learning.
  • Challenges you envision in teaching an interdisciplinary unit with other teachers.
  • Professional development experiences that have enriched your teaching and/ or collaboration with other teaching professionals.
  • Your vision of how Project EXCITE will benefit your students and your school.

Administrator Letter of Support

(completed by administrator who can attend select portions of the program sessions)

 In a letter of endorsement, describe why your district's team of teachers is uniquely qualified to be chosen for Project EXCITE. Please confirm in the letter that your school district will provide the following support to your teachers if chosen (estimated max. cost-$3,100):

  • Substitute pay for up to three days of release time per academic year for each teacher.         
  • $200 per teacher for the purchase of related classroom materials.
  • Up to three days of field trip expenses in order to complete related field projects.
  • Available funds for teacher team presentations at professional conferences.
  • Exploration of structural changes in scheduling, which may be needed to facilitate the implementation of the program.
  • Access to student achievement data for Project EXCITE evaluation purposes.
