Local EHS Issues
Here in Northwest Ohio we confront the same problems and issues that people all over the world deal with. The schools that work with Project EXCITE have investigated:
- water quality
- community water usage and distribution
- food safety and contamination
- bridge construction over the environmentally sensitive Maumee River
- electrical plants and responsible power production
- indoor air quality and ventilation
- land use and agricultural practices
- chemically harmful household cleaners
However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Using the EHS model we can approach almost any issue concerning human health. For example:
- Air quality and second-hand smoke
- Waste management practices
- Media influences on eating habits
- Global warming and its health affects
- Factories and contaminants
One of the most exciting things about this model is that it doesn't stop when we finish our investigation. We also learn how to positively change our local area, making each project meaningful and authentic.
