Understanding Problem-based Learning
Assessment . . . going beyond the test
Assessment is a key part of student growth and classroom instruction.
Project EXCITE trains teachers to use an authentic approach to
assessment – to observe, analyze, and provide feedback while students
work towards their goals. It is important to explore a variety of
strategies and techniques, both traditional and authentic to evaluate
students’ accomplishments. To better understand the different types of
assessments and the importance of using the full range of evaluation
strategies, please read Dr. Haney’s article Assessing Student Success. In addition, Project EXCITE has developed a number of generic
RUBRICS that can be applied in your classroom to assess student
portfolios, oral presentations, poster presentations, and much more!
