Workshops
Workshops are ideal for teachers who are interested in learning the EXCITE process, but cannot commit to the 2-year Cohort program. EXCITE Workshops are geared toward 4 th-10 th grade teachers and focus on how to design, implement, and assess a problem-based learning unit in the classroom. These two-day sessions walk participants through a learning module, GermOdyssey, and engage teachers in a simulated problem-based learning lesson.
“I think the kids have gotten a lot out of Project EXCITE. It’s opened up other areas to them, areas that we may not have taken them.”
~ Mrs. Ujvagi, 6 th grade, St. Pius X, ToledoAll participants receive one of our full-color Odyssey teaching manuals and learn how to use the materials to enhance their instruction and motivate their students. In addition to the PBL Odyssey unit (a $95 value), each participant will earn 1 hour of BGSU graduate credit (a $500 value), generously funded by a supplemental grant from the Ohio EPA. Most importantly, you will gain valuable information on how to stimulate student interest through real world investigations and utilize inquiry-based teaching and assessment strategies.
For the 2006-2007 school year, EXCITE is targeting our outreach efforts in eastern and southern Ohio. If your school district or county is interested in hosting a Workshop for 15-20 teachers, Project EXCITE staff will travel to your area. Workshops are available either during the week or on weekends, based on the preference of the host. All workshop fees are covered by Project EXCITE. Hosts are responsible for providing an adequate room and teacher release time (if workshop is held during the week). If you are interested, please contact our Program Manager, Jennifer Zoffel (Ph: 419-372-9132 Email: jzoffel@bgnet.bgsu.edu). We hope to see you soon!
